Postpartum: Self Care

Self care. What does it mean? For some it’s a massage or vacation. For others, it can be sitting in the car alone listening to a good song. I’m all for a luxurious spa day in the name of #selfcare but on the days that that isn’t attainable I’ll settle for a moment to myself outside to regroup. I think self care is so important that it needs to be a daily practice. And it truly is a practice. Creating a postpartum plan with my clients is one of the most important things I do with them. It is how I set my moms up for success. It doesn’t matter if this is your first baby or your 20th, you need a plan. New families are going through a huge transition. Habits of self care early on is a necessity and it must be implemented into daily life.

Make a list of things you can do everyday to fill your cup and then another list of special indulgences BEFORE baby comes. Put the list somewhere you can always see it (fridge, bathroom mirror, wherever). Share it with your partner so they can remind you when you forget. You won’t regret it!
